Being one of the major cities in the state of Rajasthan,
Alwar sees a large number of tourists every year. Although
the city is counted among the most developed cities
in the state, still it is also acclaimed for its cultural
heritage and historical monuments. Travelers from all
across the world arrive in the city of Alwar to witness
various art forms that have died at other places. Even
the historical monuments at the city are extremely inviting
and make you revisit the bygone era of chivalrous Rajput
rulers who were known to be the most efficient among
all rulers of those times.
The city of Alwar that has attained a prominent place
for the famous Sariska National Park has a number of
historic monuments to boast about. Right inside the
forests of Sariska National Park lies a fort that has
a lot of historic importance. Kankwari fort, located
inside the national park is the place where Mughal Emperor
Aurangzeb had exiled his brother Dara Shikoh. Situated
amidst beautiful landscapes, this fort is now in ruins
but still makes for an extremely enjoyable trip owing
to its location and the road that leads to the fort.
An adventure tourist would enjoy a drive to this fort
the most.
Another fort for which the city of Alwar is famous
for is the famous Kankwari. Established somewhere
in the tenth century, this fort is perched on a hilltop
at a distance of nearly 15 kms from the main city. After
passing through the control of Khanzadas, Mughals, Pathans
and Jats, the fort was finally annexed by Pratap Singh
who later founded the city of Alwar. Situated at a height
of around 1000 feet from the city of Alwar, Kankwari
is worth visiting for its temples and panoramic landscapes.
One can get a beautiful view of the Alwar city from
Kankwari.
